Air Quality

Challenge

For decades, air quality researchers and regulators focused on short-term, local impacts of smokestack and tailpipe emissions. We now know that toxic chemicals can ride dust storms halfway around the world, and that our consumption of fossil fuels generates greenhouse gases that will affect the global climate for decades to come. The University of Arizona shall lead by example in modifying our campus operations so as to reduce air quality impacts.

Goals

  • To substantially increase the use of renewable fuels in our vehicle fleets.
  • To increase energy efficiency so as to cause less fossil fuel consumption.
  • To engage in research programs that produce technologies to lessen emissions.
