Fleet Fuel Conversion

The Facilities Management MotorPool now has flex fuel vehicles available for rent. These University owned automobiles run on E85 (85% ethanol and 15% petroleum). E85 fuel reduces greenhouse gas emisions by 37 percent, reduces carbon monoxide emissions by 35 percent, and replaces exhaust emissions with less volatile organic compounds.

Around one-third of UA vehicles now use E85, and the fleet is increasingly being replaced with additional flex fuel vehicles.

Alternative Transportation

Students and staff interested in using alternative transportation to commute to campus have several options. UA is on the Environmental Protection Agency's listing for Best Workplaces for Commuters from colleges and university and is a Member of Greater Tucson Area Best Workplaces for Commuters.

Alternative Transportation Programs

  • U-Pass Discounted Bus Pass Program

The UA Parking and Transportation Services pays up to 50% of the cost of a bus pass to all eligible students, faculty, and staff. The pass allows unlimited rides from all bus stop locations during all hours of operation, 7 days a week, including holidays.
  • Sun Tran 'Free 2 Ride' Pass

In collaboration with SunTran, Parking and Transportation allows full-time UA employees to take two test rides on the public bus system for no cost.
  • CatTran

    Cat Tran Shuttle

The free campus shuttle, the CatTran, provides service to selected park and ride lots. This not only means less pollution on campus but saves drivers money, since parking permits for the remote lots are half the cost of other campus parking permits.
  • Carpool Parking Program

Employees and students can register for carpool parking permits, allowing them to pay a reduced price for the permit and park in preferred spaces.
  • RideShare

UA participates in Pima Association Government's RideShare Carpool Matching Program, an online matching service for commuters interested in carpooling.
  • Bicycle Program

Parking and Transportation offers free bike registration to help keep your bicycle secure. There are approximately 11,000 free bicycle parking spaces on campus. Staff and students can also lease individual high-security lockers or lease bicycle parking space in enclosures that are security-fenced and protected from inclement weather. Spaces are individually assigned and have keyless entry.
  • Emergency Ride Home Program

Parking & Transportation Services offers a free emergency ride home program for University of Arizona employees who are alternative transportation users. The program was implemented to encourage people to use alternative transportation, yet retain the ability to get home or to daycare if an emergency arises, without being stranded.
