Project Description

Every spring, the Bio/Diversity Project facilitates meaningful environmental science projects, called Action Projects, at their partner school sites. These Action Projects are capstone projects that address relevant environmental needs concerning biodiversity in Tucson, like pollinator school garden, pollinator ArcGIS StoryMaps website, or construction of bat houses, bee homes, or bird feeders. UA interns and the students they teach collaborate to create these Action Projects, increasing their abilities with environmental projects and cultivating positive, inclusive experiences with environmental advocacy.

Project Outcomes

Action Projects for Pollinators created 3 bird feeder boxes, 2 pollinator gardens, and 1 bat box at 5 K-12 schools across Tucson. They directly reached 436 students through these projects, which were led by 1 staff member, 2 student employees, and 16 student interns. Student workers gained experience in problem solving, risk management, strategic planning, and program evaluation.
