This project aims to diversify vegetation, introduce more native plants into the school arboretum, and improve the campus landscape while limiting resource use. The incorporation of native plants such as Chocolate Flower, Chuparosa, Creosote, Hybrid Red Aloe, Pink Fairy Duster, Sharkskin Agave, and Yellow Bird of Paradise will not only improve the physical appearance of the campus through sustainable landscape practices, but will also provide our campus with a variety of long-term social and ecological benefits such as promoting biodiversity, encouraging the growth of other native plants, and improving soil conditions.
The 6 students who were a part of the Campus Vegetation project worked with Facilities Management to plant 31 new plants covering a 1,250 square foot plot of previously barren land on campus. These plants will aid in reducing erosion and run off and require significantly less water than non-native species.
