Project Description

Spaces for Solidarity: Honoring Lorraine Lee offers three linked programs to commemorate the life of local organizer, Lorraine Lee, and connect students with regional history to foster a sense of belonging and promote individual and social wellbeing. A community speaker panel, an outdoor excursion, and commissioned artwork will highlight the intersectional aspects of Lee’s work and uplift spaces where community, connection, and action can take place to build solidarity.  The “Advancing Environmental Justice & Community Well-being: Intersectional Solidarities in Tucson” speaker panel will highlight local community members who lived and worked with Lee who will share their memories and the power of her activism that continues to resonate. The second program, the “Lorraine Lee Hidden Canyon Trail Commemoration Hike,” will bring students to the trail named after her to promote wellbeing in the outdoors and environmental justice advocacy. Finally, the third program is a “Lotus Lounge Student Space Artist’s Commemorative Installation” which will serve as an ongoing commemoration of Lee and a reminder of the continuous work to create purpose, connection, and wellbeing.
