Workers began installing the steel structure that will support a photovoltaic installation atop the University of Arizona's Environment and Natural Resources 2 (ENR2) Building located at 1064 E Lowell Street as part of the ENR2 Rooftop PV+ Project on November 3, 2020. Planning for the Project began in 2017, but construction did not begin until 2019. Phase 1, the installation of the green roof, began in November 2019 and was completed in early February 2020. Phase 2 is now underway and will result in the installation of solar panels. Phase 2 is scheduled to be complete by the end of December. In 2021, native desert plants will be planted in the rooftop gardens and research will begin examining the differences between agrivoltaic gardening (gardening beneath solar panels) and plant growth away from solar panels.
