Organized by Neuroscience and Cognitive Science Association of Students (NSCSAS), a student-run undergraduate club at the University of Arizona for students with a shared passion for neuroscience and cognitive science, the Carol A. Borcherding NSCSAS Garden for Growth aims to bring the neuroscience and cognitive science communities together for an ecological and environmentally-focused project. With CSF funding, the club will continue to rent a garden plot as part of their prevailing tradition of organizing two gardening events each semester at the University of Arizona’s Community Garden and support their growing organization.
The NSCSAS garden plot allows participants to learn more about responsible environmental, in addition to the accessibility of seed resources for members of the Tucson community members. All produce harvested from garden plots will be donated to the University of Arizona Campus Pantry. The donation to Campus Pantry will be accompanied by a club general meeting segment introducing the Campus Pantry with a summary of operations, volunteer information, and photos from the gardening plot and harvest. Their efforts in this project are ideally expected to translate into an improvement in air quality, reduction of waste and greenhouse gas production, and promoting community awareness of responsible environmental behavior, in addition to elaborating on the effective management of resource consumption – particularly regarding water and energy.
The NSCSAS garden plot allows club members to learn more about gardening, grow community, and have access to seed resources. They hosted an end-of-year event where they harvested the four varieties of flowers they planted.
