Initiative ID
4.6
This initiative proposes to expand and enhance the Cat Tran campus shuttle system at the University of Arizona to reduce campus-area emissions and improve transportation resilience. By investing in infrastructure improvements and expanding service coverage, the university aims to make Cat Tran a more convenient and reliable alternative to personal vehicles for commuting to and from campus. Actionable items include:
- Improve existing Cat Tran stops with permanent shelters, benches, and route information to enhance rider comfort and convenience.
- Extend off-campus routes to include additional university areas such as the Campus Agricultural Center and Banner North to increase accessibility.
- Expand or introduce new East/West routes from campus, including creating Park & Ride options to capture commuters living east of Campbell. Additionally, ensure at least one route services a grocery store like El Con Mall to improve food access for on-campus students.
- Add bike racks to Cat Tran buses to facilitate multimodal transportation options and encourage biking to and from bus stops.
- Replace the aging Cat Tran fleet with low or no-emission vehicles designed for inner-city traffic to reduce environmental impact and improve service reliability.
