CJ Agbannawag is the Built Environment Lead for the Office of Sustainability, driving critical conversations about the integration of sustainability initiatives and goals within the university’s operations. As an alumnus of the university and a life-long Sonoran Desert resident, he is committed to creating a more sustainable, resilient, and safe campus for the students and surrounding Tucson community. He believes that by integrating a lens of sustainability with campus designs and investments, we can improve our sustainability efforts in areas such as energy efficiency, campus mobility, and water reduction. The university is over 140 years old, and CJ wants to ensure that the institution can continue to serve the community and state for another 100+ years by pushing for sustainable, resilient, and durable development on campus.

After graduating from the College of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments, CJ worked for a local non-profit and other locally owned businesses before returning to the university as a staff member with the Office of Sustainability in 2020. Since then, his role has changed to meet the needs of the evolving team, from a Waste and Outreach Coordinator to a Sustainability Project Coordinator, to his current role as the Built Environment Lead. CJ also holds a Green Associates certification through the USGBC LEED program.
