Project Description

Students for Sustainability (SFS) takes part in the practice of food recovery through a partnership with Market on the Move (MOM), a nonprofit organization created by The 3000 Club in 2010. The goal of Market on the Move is to provide inexpensive and convenient produce for college students and help fight food insecurity. Student volunteers within Students for Sustainability set up a weekly tent on the mall where students can fill a bag with the available produce each week for 5 dollars or fill a box for 10 dollars.100% of the proceeds were given to Campus Pantry as well as any remaining produce after each event.

Project Outcomes

Over the course of 3 different pop-up events, the SFS volunteers engaged with 72 people. $317 worth of produce was purchased, which was then donated to the Campus Pantry. All produce that was not sold was donated to the Campus Pantry, which was a total of 130lbs.

Three volunteers assist a student in purchasing a bag of produce at a tabling event on the mall.
