Project Description

U of A’s School Garden Workshop (SGW) is a well-established hands-on learning program that connects undergraduate and graduate interns with Tucson educators to establish and support school gardens as dynamic educational tools. In 2025, SGW received funding from Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation and the Campus Sustainability Fund to renovate two historic properties at 415 N. Mountain Avenue to become a garden and culinary teaching and learning center for U of A student interns, a professional development site for regional K-12 teachers, and an additional learning lab for Tucson public schools. They named this location Sprouts House.

In continued support of Sprouts House, the Campus Sustainability Fund will support additional sustainability enhancements to this site, including outdoor classroom infrastructure and tool storage. These components will assist the SGW team in making Sprouts House an educational hub and lasting resource, both for U of A students and the Tucson community.
