This initiative proposes to deploy the University of Arizona's expertise in climate adaptation to better manage climate-related risks posed to the campus community and facilities. It aims to address unique risks to the entirety of main campus, such as supply chain disruptions and power outages, by conducting regular climate vulnerability and risk assessments. Additionally, the initiative seeks to evaluate social and psycho-social vulnerabilities to support the well-being of employees and students, including addressing climate anxiety. Actionable items include:
- Perform scheduled assessments of the University of Arizona and the broader campus community to identify strategies for maintaining operations amidst climate-related risks and shocks.
- Develop strategies to manage potential issues arising from a transition to renewable energy sources, including the need for additional battery storage or generators for critical facilities.
- Enhance engagement between the university and the broader community to improve collective climate risk management.
- Assess the social and psycho-social impacts of climate risks on staff and students, including mental health effects such as climate anxiety.
