Initiative ID
8.2

This initiative proposes to appoint a working group to develop a community-engaged policy on soliciting and accepting donor support from individuals and organizations heavily invested in fossil fuel production and distribution. By increasing awareness about the climate impact of campus gifts, the initiative aligns with the dissociation movement's philosophy of harm reduction. The working group will ensure equitable community engagement and transparency throughout the policy development process. Actionable items include:

  • Form a diverse working group with representatives from administration, faculty, staff, students, the University of Arizona Foundation, and alumni.
  • Conduct focus groups and individual meetings with key stakeholders to gather feedback and ensure demographic diversity.
  • Review emerging themes and the university's Policy-Making Policy to inform the new donor policy.
  • Propose a new policy for soliciting and accepting donor support by FY2026, following shared governance procedures.
