Develop & Enact a Transportation Demand Management Plan
Sustainability Commitment
Transportation Mode Shift
Initiative ID
4.1
This initiative proposes to reduce reliance on single occupancy vehicles (SOVs) among University of Arizona staff, students, faculty, and visitors by implementing comprehensive Transportation Demand Management (TDM) strategies. By addressing policies and infrastructure that currently favor SOV commuting, the university aims to significantly decrease greenhouse gas emissions associated with commuting and foster a culture of sustainable transportation choices on campus. Community engagement and equity considerations will be pivotal in shaping these initiatives to ensure the inclusivity, effectiveness, and accessibility of this plan. Actionable items include:
- Create a TDM Plan outlining specific strategies, timelines, and responsibilities for reducing single occupancy vehicle reliance. This plan should address infrastructure needs, policy changes, and programmatic efforts.
- Update the plan every three to five years to allow for adjustments in the TDM strategies that are informed by an annual Transportation Demand Survey.
