This initiative will develop a Sustainable Events Program & Certification and create a Sustainable Events Guide as a key action. The guide will include a list of sustainable vendors, options to request services like zero waste services, and sustainability information tabling. We will encourage or require campus events to achieve Green Event Certification, with badges to highlight compliance. This program will target various activities, including sports events and ASUA functions, to engage the campus community in adopting sustainable practices. By doing so, we aim to reduce waste and greenhouse gas emissions across all university events. Actionable items include:
- Promote or require Sustainable Event Certification for all campus events, emphasizing sustainable vendors, water-saving technologies, public transportation options, and student-led sustainability education initiatives.
- Develop a Sustainable Events Guide modeled after UCLA’s Green Events Certification Guide, providing minimum sustainable actions, checklists, and an application for a University of Arizona Sustainable Events Rating.
- Integrate the guide into University Facility Services and related forms, ensuring event organizers can easily access sustainable practices.
