This initiative proposes to build upon existing sustainability programs within Housing & Residential Life at the University of Arizona. Programs like Eco-Reps, Dodge the Dumpster, Less is More, and Bin It to Win It have been integral in promoting sustainability across campus. Moving forward, the initiative aims to enhance and expand these programs. Actionable items include:
- Transform the Eco-Reps program into paid positions to increase accountability, retention, and engagement among dorm residents in sustainability education.
- Establish new full-time staff positions within Housing dedicated to sustainability operations, including managing waste reduction initiatives and coordinating educational programs.
- Implement a mandatory sustainability orientation for all incoming residents to educate them on energy conservation, waste reduction, recycling practices, and sustainable living options available on campus.
- Increase educational, marketing, and communication efforts to raise awareness about recycling protocols, energy-saving behaviors, and sustainability initiatives among dorm residents through mediums such as posters, digital signage, and social media.
