5.4
This initiative proposes to consolidate and reuse space across campus to prevent unnecessary construction, reduce associated financial expenditures, and minimize the environmental footprint of our built environment. This initiative aims to ensure efficient space utilization to reduce the need for expensive new construction until existing space is fully utilized. Prioritizing the renovation and retrofitting of current buildings will address deferred maintenance needs and support the university’s sustainability goals. Actionable items include:
- Conduct annual space assessments to analyze spatial needs and deficiencies.
- Place a cap on the development of new square footage for main campus until existing space is fully utilized.
- Prioritize rehabilitation and retrofitting of existing buildings.
- Implement a transparent process for space distribution, allowing selection from a pool of options.
