1.3
This initiative proposes to encourage the increased and sustained use of virtual and hybrid environments as a sustainable alternative to in-person events. By promoting virtual learning and professional development opportunities, the University of Arizona can significantly reduce its environmental footprint. Additionally, this approach will build awareness among faculty and staff about the value of virtual spaces and ensure inclusivity and accessibility in participation. Actionable items include:
- Develop programs and practices to encourage online learning, including waiving fees for online courses.
- Promote virtual training and immersion opportunities beyond the classroom setting.
- Build awareness among faculty, staff, and administration about the benefits of virtual environments.
- Review evaluation criteria to eliminate bias between virtual and in-person participation, ensuring inclusivity and equity.
- Host an annual virtual conference on virtual conferences and workshop research and practices.
