Update the Workforce Flexible Work Policy
Sustainability Commitment
Transportation Mode Shift
Initiative ID
4.3
This initiative proposes to update the university's Flexible Work Program Guidelines to highlight the environmental benefits of working from home and encourage remote work where feasible. During the pandemic, emissions related to commuting to the University of Arizona decreased, and remote work became a popular alternative mode of transportation. This policy update would aim to incorporate environmental considerations into remote work policies and communicate these benefits to all employees. Actionable items include:
- Revise the university’s Flexible Work Program Guidelines to include environmental benefits and promote remote and hybrid work options.
- Ensure that all employees are informed about the environmental benefits of remote work and that these benefits are integrated into university policies.
- Develop and distribute a toolkit for supervisors with resources, best practices, and training to effectively manage remote and hybrid teams, ensuring equitable implementation.
- Monitor remote work participation alongside emissions data to assess and optimize the program’s impact on reducing campus-associated carbon emissions.
