Garden Programming & Partners
The University of Arizona Community Garden partners with many on- and off-campus organizations to improve sustainability and healthy living in the Tucson community. If you’re an organization interested in partnering with us, please contact us at uazgarden@gmail.com.
Compost Cats
The University of Arizona Compost Cats Bucket Program is a residentially-focused food scrap collection and composting program that serves campus and community members. Bucket Program participants collect their household food scraps in a bucket to bring them to the Garden to be turned into compost by Student Compost Specialists. The compost can then be used in the Garden! As of May 2023, the Bucket Program has diverted 45,000 lbs. of food waste from landfills since its creation in the Fall of 2020. Visit Compost Cats to learn more.
Students for Sustainability
Having been part of Students for Sustainability (SFS) for the first 10 years of its existence, the Community Garden still has strong ties to SFS. SFS frequently uses the Garden for events and now points students interested in urban gardening to the Garden to support our volunteer base.
The Campus Pantry
The Garden partners with the ASUA service Campus Pantry in their goal to reduce food insecurity in the Wildcat community. Campus Pantry allows students and staff to grab food staples at Pantry distribution events with their CatCard. The Garden grows produce for the pantry year-round. In 2021 alone, the Garden was able to donate over 350 pounds of food to Campus Pantry to help fight food insecurity on campus! Visit the Campus Pantry website to learn more.
Seed Library
The University of Arizona Seed Library was created in 2018 as a joint venture between the Garden and the University Libraries as a response to the University's designation as a food desert. The Seed Library seeks to offer one solution to the food desert around the University. Check it out in the Main Library, just outside of Catalyst Studios!
The Sustainability Tour
The Campus Sustainability Tour is a two-mile self-guided tour through campus with 14 stops that highlight some of the most prominent examples of environmentally friendly design, as well as some features that people walk by on a daily basis without noticing. It was put together by the Office of Sustainability. The first stop on the Sustainability Tour is the home of the Office of Sustainability, the Environmental and Natural Resources 2 (ENR2) building, and the last stop on the tour is the Garden.
School Garden Workshop
The University of Arizona School Garden Workshop places students in various school and community gardens around Tucson where they can earn academic credit for supporting the installation, development, and maintenance of a garden program. Garden is lucky to partner with a handful of interns from this program. Go to the School Garden website to learn more.
