The University of Arizona Community Garden provides the tools and knowledge for renters to get their hands dirty to start growing! Fill out this interest form to get more information about renting a plot.

Irrigation and Mulch, Mulch More

The Garden offers rental beds amended with rich compost and watered by automatic drip irrigation to students, university faculty and staff, and Tucson residents. The Garden offers Full Beds (20’x4’), 2/3 Beds (14’x4’), and ADA-accessible raised beds (roughly 2’x6’ beds). Our garden is completely organically grown. Gardeners who rent with us receive:

  • Their own designated brick-lined row
  • Automatic drip irrigation
  • Access to rich compost
  • Mulch as needed
  • Access to tools
  • Seeds, including access to the University Seed Library
  • and more!

You can use garden beds to grow produce, flowers, and just about anything else. Please follow organic growing practices and try to choose plants that do well in our arid environment. We offer a select number of smaller 2/3 length beds as well as ADA-accessible raised beds that are rented out at a reduced rate, depending upon availability.

Rental Periods and Pricing

Gardeners can rent plots in the Garden either for certain seasonal periods or a full year. We offer different rental options for different seasonal periods for each type of garden bed. Please note that our rental prices are a flat fee and are determined by water needs throughout the year.

Community Garden Frequently Asked Questions

If you are interested in growing with us, you can select any combination of rental periods. Depending on the plots available, renters may select the options that best suit their needs, such as Spring & Summer (January - August) or Summer & Fall (June - December).

If your rental period begins in the middle of one of the periods above, your rate will be adjusted and prorated accordingly. For example, if your desired rental period is March 8 – December 31, you will be charged at a prorated rate for March 8 – May 31 ($49) and at the regular rates for Summer ($75) and Fall ($72) for a total of $196.

First of all, how exciting! Yes, the staff here at the Garden have plenty of resources that we can point you to. The University of Arizona Cooperative Extension and University of Arizona Master Gardeners go to different locations to teach about gardening. Yes! The University of Arizona Community Garden allows all members of the Tucson community to rent a plot, depending on availability.
